Five Ways to Give Back in 2015

Follow

Every January 1, people all around the world decide what their goals are for the new year. From losing those extra pounds to managing stress a little better, the possibilities for the New Year are endless. This year, we at everydayhero want to challenge you to incorporate giving back into your plans for 2015. Already made a different resolution? Here are a few ways to incorporate giving into some common new year’s resolutions.

Resolution: Get organized

Why not extend your organization efforts a bit further and help your favorite cause? Many charities are leanly staffed, so they may not have the ability to conduct regular deep cleans on their offices. So, take your newfound organization skills and offer your services! Your help organizing or cleaning up could make a big difference.

Resolution: Lose weight

Run and raise! There are all kinds of races that you can sign up for around the country that allow you to fundraise for charity along the way. everydayhero has partnered with several different races, including Bay to Breakers, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon series and the LA Marathon, to help you give back to whatever charity you’re passionate about. Even if you haven’t found a race that’s the right fit for you, you can fundraise during your daily workouts on your everydayhero page.

Resolution: Manage stress better

There’s nothing like a little perspective to help manage stress levels. Volunteering can provide an escape from the stresses of everyday life while also reminding you of the positives in your own life. Find a way to give back to those less fortunate on websites like charitymatch.org.

Resolution: Save some money

Instead of dining out or hitting the town, spend some of your family or date nights giving back! Commit to serving dinner at the local homeless shelter or helping at a charity’s fundraising event instead. Many charities offer an array of options to help out. Find something that is fun for the whole family and make some happy memories together while giving back. You can also track all of that volunteer work and encourage friends and family to donate to support your charity of choice on your everydayhero.

Resolution: Travel more often

Volunteering is a great way to see the world. Well-known charities like Habitat for Humanity offer opportunities to volunteer in different locations all around the world. Other programs, like WWOOF, give participants the chance spend time overseas for free in exchange for working on organic farms. No matter where your interests lie, there’s a volunteer travel opportunity waiting for you.
